Message from Our Executive Director

The new year has just begun and we are already gearing up to release the next big report out of our Foundations for Practice project. Focused on hiring criteria, the report looks at the types of experiences that employers value in recent law school graduates, based on our survey of over 24,000 lawyers. The data accompanying the report sets the stage for changing how lawyers should be hired. Look for the release soon!

Valuable Collaboration on Display Within IAALS'
Business Leadership Network

Last fall, IAALS Executive Director Rebecca Love Kourlis and Brittany Schultz, in-house counsel for Ford Motor Company, sat down with Metropolitan Corporate Counsel to discuss the recent amendments to the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure.

In the interview, Kourlis and Schultz discussed the impact of the new rules and how organizations like IAALS are helping judges and lawyers across the country put them in practice effectively and efficiently.

IAALS is honored to work with companies like Ford and other valued members of its Business Leadership Network. Member groups provide critical insight from the front lines of their legal world, which helps IAALS shape its broad-consensus recommendations.

IAALS Takes Two Spots in
Law Week Colorado's
'Year in Review'

Law Week Colorado published its annual Year in Review on December 26, and included two spots for IAALS projects.

Cases Without Counsel was highlighted for its focus on the experiences of self-represented litigants within the court system and recommendations for ways that courts and the legal profession can improve the process for all litigants.

Foundations for Practice also made the list for its groundbreaking Whole Lawyer and the Character Quotient report. The report analyzed data from our survey of over 24,000 lawyers about the skills, characteristics, competencies, and qualities that new lawyers need to be successful in practice.

IAALS in the News
With three Colorado judges making President-elect Donald Trump’s list of 21 candidates for the current vacancy on the U.S. Supreme Court, the Denver Post and Colorado Public Radio sought out Rebecca Love Kourlis' expertise, which resulted in stories by both news outlets.
